Fort Myers, which was named after Colonel Abraham Myers, has a rich history dating back to 1850. The fort was named after a previous local fort built during the Seminole Wars. Myers, a former army officer, served in various positions in the Quartermaster Department of the United States Army from 1833-1861, before serving as quartermaster general of the Confederate States Army from 1861–1864.

Fort Myers is now an essential gateway to the Southwest Florida region and a sought-after tourist destination in Florida, celebrated for its sunny weather, gorgeous beaches, and plethora of attractions. Among the city's most prominent landmarks are the winter estates of Thomas Edison ("Seminole Lodge") and Henry Ford ("The Mangoes"), which visitors can explore.
