Mobile, Alabama is a prominent urban center and the county seat of Mobile County, United States. As per the 2020 census, the city had a population of 187,041 within its boundaries, which is a decrease from the 2010 census count of 195,111. Among the cities of Alabama, Mobile is the fourth most populous after Huntsville, Birmingham, and Montgomery.

The Mobile metropolitan area is primarily anchored by the city of Mobile and encompasses 430,197 residents across Mobile and Washington counties, making it the third largest metropolitan statistical area in the state. In addition, the Mobile–Daphne?Fairhope Combined Statistical Area has a total population of 661,964, making it the second largest such area entirely within Alabama. In 1702, the French established Mobile as the first capital of Louisiana. During the first century of its existence, Mobile was successively colonized by France, Great Britain, and finally Spain.
