Bexar County's seat is San Antonio, which also serves as the principal city of the San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA. Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan area, had a population of 2,601,788 people as projected by the 2020 US census, making it the third-largest in Texas and the 24th-largest in the nation.

The Downtown San Antonio Alamo Mission, also known as "The Alamo," makes San Antonio a favorite vacation spot in Texas. The city is often referred to as "Alamo City."
