Founded in 1733 on the Savannah River, Savannah is the oldest city in the U.S. state of Georgia and the county seat of Chatham County. As the British colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and the initial state capital of Georgia, this city played a vital role in American history, particularly during the American Revolution and the American Civil War as an important port city. Savannah is now a major industrial hub and Atlantic seaport. According to the census, it is the fifth-largest city in Georgia, with a population of 147,780 people. In 2020, the Savannah metropolitan region, Georgia's third-largest, had a population of 404,798 people.

Savannah is a city that enchants millions of tourists every year with its cobblestone streets, beautiful parks, and rich history. Among the city's remarkable landmarks are the Georgia Historical Society, the oldest continuously operating historical society in the South, the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the first public museums in the South, and the First African Baptist Church, to name a few. The Centennial Building, a historic structure, is also an attraction that draws many visitors. What is now a museum and visitor center was once the oldest standing antebellum rail facility in the U.S., and it is where Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA, was born.
