Zip Codes in Ventura, CA

Ventura is a Californian city located on the coast to the northwest of Los Angeles. It is situated in a narrow valley with steeply sloping terrain on both sides, through which the Ventura River flows in the western part of the city. The northern part of the town is bordered by the steep foothills of Ventura, while the eastern part lies on a flat alluvial coastal plain that runs along the western edge of the Oxnard Plain. Several Barrancas extend from the slopes to the Santa Clara River, which serves as the city's southern limit. The Santa Clara River Valley begins at Saticoy, a historic settlement.

Ventura has been inhabited by the Chumash Native Indians and other groups for at least 10,000 years. After the arrival of Spanish missionaries, Junpero Serra founded Mission San Buenaventura, which gave the city its name, in 1782. San Buenaventura was given to Don José de Arnaz as Rancho Ex-Mission San Buenaventura during the Mexican secularization of the Californian missions, and a small settlement grew around it. Following the American Invasion of California, San Buenaventura became a city in 1866. Ventura underwent significant development and expansion due to the tremendous oil boom of the 1920s and the subsequent post-World War II economic boom.
